New York Rangers Report Cards Round Two: The Defense
Brady Skjei
Previous Grade: B+
It’s truly amazing the growth we’ve seen out of Brady Skjei in his first full season at the NHL level. So much so that he’s been able to escape the infamous Alain Vigneault for any extended stretch this season.
Skjei has suited up in all but one of the New York Rangers’ games this season, and the results have been better than anyone could have expected. Since his last report card was released, Skjei has recorded one goal and 14 assists to bring his point totals on the season to two goals and 27 assists.
His 27 assists rank him second among NHL rookies as Columbus’ Zach Werenski is the only one with more.He is also 10th overall in points by rookies.
While the offense has been a welcome addition and has justified some of Jeff Gorton’s remarks during Keith Yandle’s departure, Skjei’s game has grown in many other ways. He has become one of the team’s strongest defenseman in his own end and is a spectacle to watch during the 3-on-3 overtimes.
