Every year, fans fantasize about their teams making big deals at the trade deadline. This is no different for New York Rangers fans. Some of these deals they want, though, are pipe dreams.

We New York Rangers fans have gone through a lot this season. Between the utter stupidity exemplified by the coaching staff in terms of personnel usage to the injuries sustained by some of our favorite players, its been a frustrating 50 games so far.

But every now and again, we need to just take a break from the team’s absurdity have a laugh for a minute.

So let’s move on to some fans’ absurdity!

I took a look at CapFriendly’s Armchair-GM to see what other fans feel are realistic trades that the Rangers could or would make and, man, are there some gems. Here are a few of the most absurd ones.

Bad trade #1: Ryan McDonagh to WSH for Andre Burakovsky and a 2018 draft pick

First of all, the Rangers would never make a trade of this magnitude with the Capitals or any other team in their division. Secondly, Burakovsky, while young, isn’t the type of game-changing prospect that the team should be getting in return for their captain. The baseline for trading McDonagh should be two first round picks and a top prospect.

Bad trade #2: Kevin Hayes to CBJ for Jack Johnson

Yeah, a team looking to jump-start a rebuild at the trade deadline should move their 25-year-old, second line center for a disgruntled 31-year-old 2nd pair defenseman in your division. If the Rangers were to ever consider a trade like this I’d jump out a window. Whoever made that trade proposal should be tested.

Bad trade #3: Peter Holland, Cody McLeod and 2nd rounder to VAN for Erik Gudbranson, Richard Backman and a 5th rounder

Let’s get one thing straight; Erik Gudbranson is not good at hockey. Is he big? Yes. Is he physical? Yes. Can he skate? Hell no. Also, Gudbranson is a puck possession black hole. He has had one season in his career with a positive Corsi rating. Oh and Richard Backman? He is a career AHL backup goalie and is 30 years old. Why would the Rangers have interest in adding him?

The only person who would give up a 2nd round pick for these two is Alain Vigneault. So Alain, get off of CapFriendly and look away from your “sophisticated stats package” and learn how to evaluate talent.

Bad trade #4: Marc Staal (50 percent salary) to NYI for a 2nd rounder

This is an example of a Rangers fan not evaluating a deal from the other side of the tracks. Garth Snow has made some stupid moves but he can’t possibly be THIS stupid. Plus, just like the Capitals deal above, the Rangers would not make an NHL trade with a division rival, especially the Islanders. The two teams have never made a deal featuring a rostered player. That isn’t going to change anytime soon.

Bad trade #5: Alexei Bereglazov to DET for Mike Green (50 percent salary) and Dylan McIlrath

In his short time with the Rangers in the preseason, Bereglazov showed no ability to skate at an NHL level. With that being said, you really think that Detroit is going to gift rap New York a puck-moving right-handed defender who is the middle of his best season in three years?

I’ll give you a hint. NO.

Plus, Dylan McIl-who? I don’t recall who that is…

Bad trade #6: McDonagh, Michael Grabner to STL for Tage Thompson, Klim Kostin, 5th rounder

Even though both of the prospects that would be hypothetically coming back to the Rangers in this deal are under 21 years-old, this would be horrible asset management by the Blueshirts do make a move like this.

Next: What is fair trade value for Nick Holden?

Like I said above, you need to receive at least two first rounders and a top prospect for McDonagh alone. You could probably get a first rounder for Grabner too, or at least a 2nd and a 3rd. With all of that in mind, this offer is a complete joke.
