New York Rangers Stock Market: risers and fallers 2/18-2/24

The New York Rangers have started to sell, sell, sell. With the team prepared to blow up the team even more, a new era has begun.

The New York Rangers have had a whirlwind of a week.

With two trades, the first two NHL games for a rookie goalie, and three more losses added to their record, the team has been busy.

Let’s start with trade talk. The first trade to happen this week sent defenseman Nick Holden to the Boston Bruins in exchange for a 2018 third round pick and defenseman Rob O’Gara. In the first trade between these rivals, Michael Grabner was shipped across the Hudson River to the New Jersey Devils. In exchange, the Rangers acquired defensive prospect Yegor Rykov and a 2018 second round pick.

The Rangers have also kept their losing streak going this week. The last time the Rangers won was on February 11th, five games ago. They currently sit last in the Metropolitan division and 24th in the league. In all honesty, at this point any playoff hopes have diminished. It is time for the team to just tread water for the rest of the season and cross they fingers for a high draft pick.

On a good note, goalie prospect Alexandar Georgiev shined in his NHL debut. Even in a loss he managed to set a record with 38 saves, the most of any Rangers goalie in their NHL debut. He allowed only two goals and held his own. Hopefully he becomes the Rangers backup goalie next season. Top prospect Igor Shestyorkin is still a year away from coming over to North America, so Georgiev should be able to hold the fort until then.
