Down: J.T. Miller

J.T. Miller has been struggling deeply recently.

J.T. Miller is a frustrating player. He will go on scoring binges where he’s putting up points left and right, and then struggle immensely. Miller is in the midst of a struggling phase. His last goal came on February 3rd against the Nashville Predators, 10 games ago. He has seldom been putting up assists and has only two in his last five games.

The fact that he’s on a scoring drought isn’t the main problem, it’s his play without the puck. His defensive play has been lacking significantly. It feels like he gives the puck away so frequently that he mostly has to defend his own mental errors. In fact, most of his issues seem to have stemmed from mental errors.

Do I think his poor play will follow him into next season and beyond? No, but it is concerning. Especially because he is due for a new contract this summer. Initially, i was a huge proponent of Miller getting a long term deal in order to avoid paying him in the future. Now, I’d be more comfortable with a bridge deal. However, I definitely want Miller to remain with the team. I do not want the Rangers to trade him at this time as I think he will be an important piece in the rebuild. Hopefully, Miller is able to stick around for a while and become a major part of future Rangers teams.
