Down: Filip Chytil

Filip Chytil has hit the first real scoring drought he’s had all year.

Filip Chytil is probably one of the Rangers’ most exciting prospects. Not much was known about the young center when he was drafted. Soon, we learned that he was an incredibly gifted scorer at just 18 years old. He has been developing nicely with the Hartford Wolf Pack and played incredibly at the World Junior tournaments. Additionally, Chytil has meshed supremely well with Lias Andersson since he was called over from Frolunda in Sweden.

This week however, his offense has been tamed by the opposition. He has just one assist in his previous five games and has not scored in seven games. This is the first prolonged scoring drought of his short AHL career and to be honest, I am not concerned in the least.

Chytil has the potential to be a dangerous scorer in the NHL. Does this scoring drought hold any meaning to his value as a player? No. He’s young and has been bouncing around a good deal since the beginning of the season. Initially, he had made the Rangers roster out of preseason, but was then demoted to the AHL level. Then he left in December to play for the Czech Republic during the World Juniors. The fact that he has been as productive as he has has been a major feat. Next year, he deserves a good, long look to hopefully join the Rangers for the full season.
