Rick Nash

The Rangers dealt Nash to the Bruins at the trade deadline. As soon as the trade went down, NHL insiders were already suggesting that the Rangers may be the favorite to sign him in the offseason.

However, the best thing for both parties involved is to stay apart and never look back.

Nash was a good Ranger, but he was never good enough. In five and a half seasons with the Blueshirts, Nash only tallied over 40 points in a year just twice. While he was one of the team’s best penalty killers over his Rangers career, he never lived up to the $7.8 million contract we was playing under.

On name alone Nash will likely command $5 million or more a year on the free agent market. At this point of his career, that’s a bit of an overpay. Nash is a middle-six winger who you hope will chip in 20-25 goals and 40 points.

Right now, the Rangers are trying to refresh their approach with a new leadership group. Nash was a key member of the previous core. It’s time to give someone else the reigns.
