Notes and analysis

  • Give Henrik Lundqvist all of the awards for this absolutely criminal robbery of a Buffalo goal
  • It’s a cliche to bag on the officials in a close loss, but two missed calls directly led to Buffalo Goals. Jeff Skinner of the Sabres clamped onto Chris Kreider’s arm and fell down to simulate an interference penalty.
  • The second Sabres goal came with too many men on the ice and proved an insurmountable difference
  • Cody McLeod dressed for the first time this season and played a game-low 5:23, the forward got into a fight and then saw pretty much no ice time for the remainder of the game
  • For the second straight game, Jimmy Vesey was around the front of the net and missed several golden opportunities to score
  • Filip Chytil left the game after a hit to the head from Patrick Berglund and returned midway through the second period
  • The Rangers will presumably start Alexandar Georgiev in the second half of the back to back against the Carolina Hurricanes
