Hockey is back in full force for the New York Rangers. Though their record may not show it, the team looks miles better than they did last year.

Record: 0-3-0

Scores: NYR vs NSH 3-2 L, NYR @ BUF 3-1 L, NYR @ CAR 8-5 L

The regular season has kicked off and the 2018-2019 season has officially begun. Record wise, the New York Rangers have definitely gotten off on the wrong foot. Losing all of your first three games isn’t exactly the way you want to start a new season.

However, the goal this season isn’t the playoffs or even wins. The goal is player development and obtaining high end prospects. So, while it may be demoralizing to constantly lose, we have to look at the bigger picture.

The good news is, the bigger picture looks good. In fact, the Rangers were able to hold their own against a genuine cup contender in the Nashville Predators and looked even when they played the Buffalo Sabres. The truly poor game came against the Carolina Hurricanes when the Rangers lost 8-5.

When the Rangers finally got their offense to start clicking, the defense fell apart. This led to one ugly game of poor defense and goal after goal coming from both ends.

While it (hopefully) won’t be quite as ugly, the rest of this season will presumably go down in a similar fashion. Lines clicking one day and then struggling the next, rookies looking like they’re finally hitting their stride, and then falling apart at the seams. Buckle up Ranger fans, it’s gonna be a bumpy ride.
