Up: Jimmy Vesey

After an utterly abysmal preseason, Jimmy Vesey whipped his game into shape.

Vesey looked fantastic during the Rangers’ home opener. He had some grade-A chances to score and came close to putting one in on a breakaway. He was finally rewarded against the Carolina Hurricanes when he recorded two goals.

Vesey looks like an entirely different player. Only a week ago he looked lost on the ice and wasn’t anywhere close to getting scoring chances. Now, he looks engaged and fierce on the puck. The problem? Vesey should have more than the two goals he currently has.

Players blow chances, it’s a part of the game. But Vesey had a decent amount of chances that he was unable to convert on, more than usual. With Kevin Hayes and Mats Zuccarello as his linemates, he has two of the most skilled passers on the team playing with him. Because of this, he must finish them. For the good of his development and the good of the Rangers, Vesey needs to work on converting on those chances.

Of course, we’re only three games into an 82 game season. There is ample enough time to see how Vesey plays throughout the season, let alone see if he can sustain this level of play. Hopefully, Vesey is able to continue his performance and become a regular contributor in the lineup.
