New York Rangers Stock Market: Blown Out and looking pretty bleak
Unchanged: Mika Zibanejad
Mika Zibanejad has finally been able to exercise his scoring demons.
Last week, Zibanejad played extremely well. However, he struggled to finish on the grade A scoring chances that he was presented with. This changed in the game against the Florida Panthers, where Zibanejad had two goals and two assists for a four-point night.
While he was unable to score in the other two games this week, he was able to kick a struggling Mats Zuccarello into gear, assisting on both of his goals. In addition, he managed to pick up an assist against the Sharks on Chris Kreider’s second of two third period goals.
Star players have the ability to make everyone around them better. Am I saying that Zibanejad is the Rangers’ star player not named Henrik Lundqvist? No. Well, not yet.
Mika Zibanejad has all the tools to become a star player in the NHL. He has the offensive instinct and the skating skills. However, he has struggled with significant injuries, such as concussions and a broken leg, throughout his career.
Because of the severity of these injuries, he has missed significant time during the season, not to mention the time it would take for him to re-acclimate to playing again.
Barring any more of these injuries, Zibanejad has the ability to hit 30 goals and score 60 points and be a bright spot on a bleak team.
