Rising Up: Kevin Hayes

Though Kevin Hayes has struggled to start the season, he is steadily rising up performance wise.

Hayes and Chris Kreider are similar in that they both have the potential to become dominant forces in this league, yet frequently fail to make an impact. While Kreider has managed to record 11 points in 15 games, Hayes has eight. Four of these (all assists) coming this week.

With half of Hayes’ points coming in games this week, it’s safe to say that his performance is on the upturn. Much like with Kreider, Hayes’ physical attributes should make him an offensive juggernaut.

He’s 6″5′ and weighs 227 pounds, which should make him a physical power forward who is able to protect the puck with his body. And he is, except for when he goes through lazy spells.

Hayes’ three point performance against the Montreal Canadiens is an indicator of just how good of a player he is, and how much potential Hayes still has. While it seems as if Hayes is a grizzled veteran, at 26 years old, he still has some time before he enters a point in time where he just is who he is as a player.

Though Hayes won’t be scoring three points every game, the same tenacity should be shown in every contest. If not, there will definitely be uncertainty surrounding his future with the Rangers.
