Neutral: Filip Chytil

Filip Chytil’s production has cooled off since his five game goal streak. Should we be concerned?

The enigmatic 21st overall draft pick from the 2017 draft has proven his chops as one of the team’s top prospects. Chytil struggled through the transition from being an AHL player to a full-time NHL player early on this year. With Chytil being only 19, these growing pains were to be expected. It was understood that if you waited out the bad, the good would soon follow.

And boy did the good follow. The floodgates opened and from November 12-21, Chytil recorded five goals and five games, his first five goals of the season. However, since November 21st, Chytil has cooled off. He has recorded just one assist in the following six games.

Is this anything to be concerned about? No. Players go through hot and cold streaks. If anything, this goal streak should show us Chytil is more than capable of scoring at the NHL level. The concern should have been when he was utterly snake bitten at the start of the season. Before his goal streak, it seemed as if he was cursed to not score the whole season.

But now, it’s just a matter of finding his scoring touch like any other player. There is no more learning to be done at the AHL level.
