Up: Ryan Strome

Ryan Strome has quietly had a successful run since he was traded to New York in mid-November.

The former top ten pick has barely been a Ranger for a month and he’s already been putting up points. On November 16th, New York traded forward Ryan Spooner to the Edmonton Oilers for Strome.  Up until that point, both players only had two points throughout the season.

In the past seven games, Strome has tallied two goals and three assists for five points. So far, in his his Ranger career, he has five points in nine games. It’s clear that Rangers’ head coach David Quinn trusts Strome based on the role he’s been given in the lineup.

In this small sample size, Strome has looked quite successful as a Ranger, which could be due to a multitude of reasons. The coaching situation in Edmonton was clearly a problem as head coach Todd McLellan was recently fired. Additionally, Strome did not have much to work with talent-wise in Edmonton as he didn’t play much with superstar Connor McDavid.

Here in New York, Strome’s situation has improved. While the Rangers aren’t exactly the most stacked team, they do have talent spread over all four lines. Additionally, their coaching situation is significantly more stable with Quinn looking to be in it for the long haul.

This coupled with Strome’s ability to not be the player in the spotlight should make him a successful Ranger, for however long he’s here.
