1. Mika Zibanejad

Now in his third season with the New York Rangers, Mika Zibanejad is proving the Rangers victorious in the Derick Brassard trade.

Zibanejad was a promising young player when he came into the Rangers organization. However, his first two seasons were plagued with serious injuries. With a broken leg in one season and a concussion in the next, it seemed that he couldn’t catch a break. When would this skilled player oozing with potential finally break out?

The answer? This year. Currently, Zibanejad leads the Rangers in points with 11 goals and 23 assists for 34 points in 37 games. Zibanejad just came off an impressive career high four assist night in Nashville against the Predators.

Zibanejad’s breakout year is one of the best things to happen to the Rangers. He’s the idea player for the rebuild: young, fast, with a lethal one-timer from the face off dot.

With Zibanejad having three years remaining on his contract and with the fact that he is continuously improving, I expect him to be one of the key factors of this rebuild. In addition to his scoring, Zibanejad shows promise as both a leader on and off the ice. This being proving with him earning an A at the start of the season. With these two characteristics, Zibanejad is the prime player to help the Rangers out of the rebuild.
