Down: Cody McLeod

It is still a mystery to me as to why Cody McLeod is still a New York Ranger.

Cody McLeod is a relic of hockey’s past. One of the last of the dying enforcer breed, it’s amazing that players of his ilk still exist in the league.

McLeod was picked up off waivers from the Nashville Predators by New York in January 2018. They hoped to add both a veteran presence in the locker room and some toughness on the roster. Unfortunately, the Cody McLeod experiment in New York has proven unsuccessful.

For a team looking to rebuild and play more youth, McLeod is an outlier. While he is a veteran, his constant penalties and lack of scoring abilities are just point blank frustrating and unnecessary. The Rangers have an abundance of young players in their farm system in need of a look at the NHL level, why have Cody McLeod taking up that roster spot?

McLeod has been in and out of the lineup this season due to both injuries and healthy scratches. In 22 games played he has just one  point, but has 49 penalty minutes. It’s time to end the Cody McLeod experiment and bring up a player from the Hartford Wolf Pack to replace him.
