After a slump followed by a split home-and-home series against the New York Islanders, some of the New York Rangers were able to regain their footing.
The New York Rangers stock market was an idea originally spearheaded by Victoria Ranieri, a former Blue Line Station member, and we’re here today to continue it. First of all, what is the New York Rangers stock market?
We track players throughout the week(s) through goals, assists, points, general performance, and other statistics, and decide whether their value has gone up or down in the NHL. This week, we have two players whose value increased, and two whose value decreased.
This week was not the most successful one for the Rangers. On Sunday, January sixth, they suffered a 5-0 shutout loss to the Arizona Coyotes in Arizona with Henrik Lundqvist in net (he was pulled after the fifth goal for Alexandar Georgiev).
On Tuesday, January eighth, they attempted to bounce back but failed against the Vegas Golden Knights, falling 4-2 in Las Vegas with Georgiev in goal. The Rangers goals in this game were by Jesper Fast from Jimmy Vesey and Boo Nieves and by Mika Zibanejad from Mats Zuccarello and Chris Kreider.
This also extended their losing streak to four games. They then began a home-and-home series with the New York Islanders, losing 4-3 at home led by Lundqvist.
The three goals came courtesy of Ryan Strome from Vesey and Filip Chytil, Kevin Shattenkirk from Fredrik Claesson, and Fast from Neal Pionk and Pavel Buchnevich. Finally, they won against the Islanders in Brooklyn, with Georgiev in net and goals by Chytil from Nieves and Zuccarello from Tony DeAngelo and Zibanejad.
While this wasn’t the best week for the Rangers, some players were able to get out of slumps of their own, while others suffered with the team.
