Up: Henrik Lundqvist

Henrik Lundqvist’s value definitely increased this week. In the three games he appeared in this week, he made his presence known.

“The King” shined against the Carolina Hurricanes, posting a .944 save percentage, making 34 saves on 36 shots. Against the Chicago Blackhawks, he tied Terry Sawchuk for sixth place in all-time wins for NHL goalies.

This was his 445th career win in 839 games. He also made 24 saves on 27 shots, with a .889 save percentage.

Against the Boston Bruins, he won again, making 27 saves on 29 shots and recording a .931 save percentage. He also moved up and took sole possession of sixth place.

Eight more wins and he will tie Curtis Joseph for fifth place all-time, and nine more will get Lundqvist past Joseph and in sole possession of fifth place. The 36-year-old also participated in All-Star weekend, representing the New York Rangers.

On Friday night, he was a part of the “save streak” event at the skills competition. He won, with his longest streak of stopped shots peaking at 12 consecutive saves.

On Saturday, during the All-Star game, he did not let in one goal for the Metropolitan Division. While he is clearly aging and is not the player that he used to be, this week and weekend were reminders of just how lucky we are to be Rangers fans during the Henrik Lundqvist era.

Despite his age and all he has been through, he is still one of the most skilled netminders in the league. Even though it’s hard to do when he gets stuck in a slump that lasts a few games, it’s still extremely important to thank Lundqvist for all he has done and all he continues to do for the New York Rangers as a team and as a community.
