Third Period

For the first 12 minutes of the third period the story was the Rangers hanging onto a 2-1 lead. Toronto had ten shots on goal to the Rangers’ three when the Zibanejad line took over. They maintained possession in the Leafs’ zone and when an exhausted Jake Muzzin tried to clear the puck it was tipped by Mats Zuccarello to Adam McQuaid who took the shot from the blue line that eluded Garret Sparks.

The Maple Leafs desperately tried to get on the scoreboard over the final eight minutes, but were stymied by Georgiev, even when they pulled their goalie with over two minutes left.  The Rangers finally sealed the win on an empty net goal by Kevin Hayes

Shots were in favor of the Maple Leafs 17-7 and Georgiev finished with 55 saves, only four behind the team record set by Mike Richter.
