To celebrate one of the great events in sports, the NCAA men’s basketball tournament, Bluelinestation is conducting its own bracket. Reader voting will dictate the best New York Ranger since the 2013 lockout-shortened season.

When it comes to playoff tournaments, the NHL’s Stanley Cup playoffs reign supreme. The 16 wins required to capture the best trophy in all of sports cannot be topped. However, the NCAA’s men’s basketball tournament is pretty close. Amongst the fever of bracket madness of the round of 64 the third weekend of March, most of America tunes in to watch.

In celebration of a great event, Bluelinestation is conducting its own bracket-style tournament. 64 different New York Rangers are seeded 1 through 16 in four different regions based on the type of player they were and the role they had with the organization.

The seeding was assigned based on relevance and importance to the greater context of the Ranger organization. The more impactful or the longer a player was with New York, the higher seed a player will be in their respective region.

Of course, with goaltender Henrik Lundqvist being the obvious choice, he was held out of the bracket in the interest of fairness. The four regions are divided between, franchise cornerstones, grinders, outside talent and prospects.

Between today and tomorrow, all 64 players will play their first-round game and be voted upon.
