Number 2 Sean Avery vs Number 15 Brandon Mashinter

As the strongest number two seed in this entire tournament, it would not be a tremendous surprise to see legendary agitator Sean Avery walk away with a win when things are all said and done. The stories are legendary, Avery was such a pain in the neck to play against, he still holds permanent reservations in the back of retired goaltender Martin Brodeur.

On top of his abilities as a pain, Avery was also a pretty good hockey player when he kept his stick on the ice and emotions in check. The former Ranger holds a special place in the hearts of many for wearing his heart on his sleeve and never being truly under control. Avery still manages to ingratiate himself with Ranger fans through his presence on social media.

We’d like to thank former Ranger Brandon Mashinter for getting off the bus to participate in this bracket, but thankfully, the engine is still warm. While never a permanent presence at Madison Square Garden, the former Blueshirt wracked up 50 career penalty minutes over 64 games at the NHL level.

He dropped the gloves two times for the Rangers during the 2013-2014 season in the course of six games.
