With the NHL draft lottery drawing taking place tonight, the New York Rangers’ executives are hoping the team can win the first overall pick with their 7.5 percent odds.
Well New York Rangers’ fans, this is what the entire 2018-2019 season comes down to. The team came into the season with the expectation of being one of the worst teams in the entire league in hopes of securing a franchise-altering talent in the entry draft to make all of the losing worth it. At 8 p.m. tonight in Toronto, the NHL will draw the ping pong balls.
No matter where the Rangers end up picking in the draft, it is of the utmost importance to land an impact player. Granted, the closer the team is to the tenth overall pick than the first, the less of a chance at one of the best pieces. However, it should be noted that this is a relatively deep draft with plenty of quality talent for the first two rounds.
While history is no indication of the future, it’s worth looking back at recent history. While the two top talents in this year’s draft, Jack Hughes and Kappo Kakko aren’t quite on the tier of Connor McDavid and Jack Eichel, they’re awfully close.
So, here’s a look back at recent NHL draft history at each draft position starting in reverse order.
