Adam Fox is the newest Ranger prospect, his rights obtained in a deal with the Carolina Hurricanes.  A finalist for the Hobey Baker Award, he was regarded as one of the top defensemen in college hockey, playing for Harvard.  Fox was originally drafted by the Calgary Flames, 66th overall in the third round of the 2016 Entry Draft and was traded to Carolina in the summer of 2018.

Craig Button, TSN – Button had Fox very highly rated, at 13th overall and the fifth best defensive prospect.   That was up from 36th overall  in the prior survey.

Chris Peters, ESPN –  Peters had eight defensemen rated higher than Fox who came in at 30th place (up from 44th place).   He did praise Fox’s “kigh-end vision, poise and an ability to read plays especially well.”   He noted that defensively, there is “room for improvement.”

Corey Pronman, The Athletic – Pronman moved Fox up on his list from 64th to 44th.  Pronman cited Fox’s intelligence.  He said that Fox “has a ton of poise and patience with the puck to see options develop, and has a high level of skill to execute plays.”  He did raise a lack of skating speed as something than can hold Fox back.

NHL Network – Adam Fox made the NHL Network’s rankings at 48th place and they raised the question of whether he would end up signing with Carolina.

Dobber Hockey –  Dobber had Adam Fox ranked eighth among defense prospects with an upside as a top-four power play specialist. On the positive side, Fox has a point potential of 73.9 in the NHL using the PNHLe calculation and based on his outstanding year at Harvard.
