Russia 5-0 vs. Austria

Lundqvist wasn’t the only Ranger netminder to notch a shutout on Sunday.  Alexandar Georgiev got the start against Austria and back the Russians to a 5-0 win.

Georgiev wasn’t very busy as the Austrians only had 15 shots on goal and he stopped them all.  It looks like the Russian team will be giving Georgiev an opportunity to strut his stuff before they decide if he or Andrei Vasilevskiy will be in net for the playoff round.

USA 7-1 vs. France

Team USA had an easy game against France, winning 7-1.  Chris Kreider (wearing number 18) scored the sixth goal for the USA in the first minute of the third period.  Defense prospect Adam Fox also got on the board with an assist on the fifth USA goal, scored by Patrick Kane.

Fox got the secondary assist as he made the pass to Dylan Larkin for a one-timer and Kane put in the rebound.

Brady Skjei didn’t get a point, but he was a plus two and led all US players in ice time with 20:20. Skjei is playing top minutes as the lead defenseman on Team USA.

The player that everyone was watching was Jack Hughes.  He ended up playing 14:28 and had three shots on goal, but was scoreless.  Expectations are incredibly high for Hughes, but on a team of NHL stars, he is not the standout that he was on his under 18 and under 20 teams.
