How the Wolf Pack did

Hartford got off to a great start, beating the Charlotte Checkers 5-3 in their home opener and following that up with an overtime 4-3 win over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.  Goal scorers in the Charlotte game were Matt Beleskey (2), Vincent LoVerde, Joey Keane and Vinni Lettieri.

Defenseman Sean Day was the hero on Sunday, named the number one star for scoring a minute and a half into overtime for the win.  It was a move reminiscent of the Kaapo Kakko goal in the Traverse City Tourney.

Keane and Lettieri picked up their second goals of the season and they were joined by Ryan Lindgren who scored a spectacular goal.

Aside from Kravtsov, it was a good weekend for the Rangers’ top prospects.  Filip Chytil finished with two assists including a helper on Day’s overtime goal. He was plus three for the two games and had three shots on goal.

Defenseman Joey Keane had his two goals on three shots and was minus one for the weekend.  Ryan Lindgren continued his fine work from the preseason with one goal on four shots and was a league leading plus four in the two games.

Sean Day is one of those prospects who appears to be at a crossroads in his career. He is in the second year of his Entry Level Contract.  He spent last season in Hartford with a short stint with Maine of the ECHL where he was outstanding, less so in the AHL.   This season he’s off to a fast start with a goal and an assist in two games.  One of the most anticipated Canadian junior hockey players, he didn’t live up to the hype in his OHL career and slipped to the third round of the 2016 draft. The 21-year old is a lefthanded shot and needs  a strong season to get near the top of the Rangers’ defense prospect depth chart.
