The New York Rangers are looking to bounce back and get back in the win column after dropping six of their last seven as they take on the Tampa Bay Lightning in a Tuesday night match up from the World’s Most Famous Arena.
On Sunday, the New York Rangers lost to the Boston Bruins 7-4 and will try to end their five game home stand on a high note when they take on the Tampa Bay Lightning in an Eastern Conference match-up.
Saying the Rangers are in a slump is an understatement. The Blueshirts have been outscored 29 to 19 in their last seven games and have fallen to seventh place in the Metropolitan Division. The Lightning, on the other hand, are currently in the middle of the pack in the Atlantic Division. They sit in fifth place and have won four of their last seven and are coming off of a disappointing overtime lost against the Predators at home. Both teams are looking to get back into the win column.
The Rangers are having problems on offense, defense, and especially in the net. Henrik Lundqvist and Alexandar Georgiev have not gotten off to the start that they both expected to. Last game out, Lundqvist was pulled mercifully after allowing four goals in just the second period. Georgiev would allow another two in the third period in a game which saw the Bruins just overpower the Rangers in every which way possible. All the blame can’t be put on them though, as the Rangers defense has not been playing up to par recently. The Rangers are facing 36.9 shots per game, the most in the NHL, and have allowed 40 shots on three difference occasions. The bad defense has really been seen through the first 10 games of the season.
On the bright side, in a game totally dominated by the Bruins, Micheal Haley and Brady Skjei were able to score their first goals of the season. Pavel Buchnevich came away with two points (one goal and one assist) and Chris Kreider also added a power play goal.
