About the Hurricanes

Although the Carolina Hurricanes are 15-8-1, they can be considered one of the most inconsistent teams in the NHL, winning and losing in bunches.  They’ve won two straight and have had win streaks of three, four and five games along with losing streaks of three and four games. This is a team that is either scorching hot or ice cold.

In the net, Petr Mrazek couldn’t be any more of what you could ask for. He’s currently tied for the league lead in wins with 11, as well as, shutouts, with two. He has allowed 2.63 goals a game and is saving shots at a .903 rate. He is undoubtedly one of the reasons why the Hurricanes are where they are in the Metropolitan Division.

On the other side of the puck, the Hurricanes are an offensive juggernaut. They have four players (Sebastian Aho, Dougie Hamilton, Teuvo Teravainen, Andrei Svechnikov) with at least 20 points and have scored 83 goals as a team, which is good for fourth best in the NHL.

Hamilton leads the team in average ice time, has two game winning goals and is currently tied for sixth place with a plus/minus of +15.

The Hurricanes made the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time in nine years last season. They went on to defeat the Washington Capitals in seven games and swept the New York Islanders in the second round. However, they did get swept by the Boston Bruins to end their season on a low note. They are looking to get back into the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time in consecutive seasons since the 2000-01 and 2001-02 seasons.
