K’Andre Miller  (D) – 2018 1st round – #18

K’Andre Miller was one of two Rangers prospects who played in the World Junior Championships in the Czech Republic.   He missed one Wisconsin game, a 3-2 exhibition win over the US National Under 18 team.  Miller has had a good season in Wisconsin with six goals and 12 points, but it has not been as impressive as his freshman year.  He is still the top defenseman on the Badgers.

Since his return from Europe, Wisconsin has played twice.  On Friday the Badgers lost 4-2 to Ohio State.  Miller didn’t have a good game, held without a point and minus four overall.  Wisconsin won the second game 5-2 and Miller had an assist on the third, game winning goal.

Wisconsin is mired in last place in the Big Ten with a record of 3-8-1-1.  Overall, they are 8-11-1.   It’s been a disappointing season for Wisconsin who take on Michigan State next weekend, in Madison.

Eric Ciccolini (RW) – 2019 7th round – #205

Eric Ciccolini  was a late round draft pick and his play at Michigan has to be seen as encouraging.  As a freshman, he has one goal and seven assists in 22 games.  Michigan were in action over the holidays at the Great Lakes Invitational.  They defeated Ferris State 3-0, but Ciccolini was scoreless. In the second game, a 4-2 loss to Michigan Tech,  Ciccolini assisted on Michigan’s first goal.

This weekend Michigan swept a two game series against 14th ranked Notre Dame, winning 3-0 and 3-1. Ciccolini notched the secondary assist in the first game on the power play.

Michigan is  4-7-1-0 in the Big Ten and  9-11-2 overall.   Their next two games this weekend are against Penn State.

Tyler Nanne (D) – 2014 5th round –  #142

We’ve profiled the health issues for Tyler Nanne.  His return to collegiate hockey is reward enough for this young man who is one of the team leaders for the Gophers.  He is also their leading scorer on defense with three goals and ten poinits.

Nanne had two solid games over the holidays as Minnesota competed at the Mariucci Classic. On December 28, the Gophers prevailed over Bemidji State 5-2 as Nanne assisted on their second goal.

In their second game of the tournament, they defeated St. Cloud State 4-2.  Nanne had a goal and an assist, scoring the game winner.

Back in action in the Big Ten conference, they had a home and away this weekend against Michigan State.  Minnesota dropped the opener 4-1 with no scoring for Nanne.  They won the second game 2-0 with Nanne not factoring in the offense.

Minnesota is in fifth place in the Big Ten at 3-5-4-3 and  8-10-4 overall.   Their next game is an exhibition against the US Under 18 national team.

All of these teams are in their stretch runs as they try to qualify for the NCAA tournament and a chance to win at the Frozen Four.
