Notes on the game

  • This was the first game this season that Artemi Panarin has missed.  In four and a half NHL seasons, he has missed a total of seven out of 376 games.
  • There was no word if Panarin is going to miss the All-Star game.  Quinn said after the game that it was a Jeff Gorton/John Davidson decision.
  • The Rangers had yet another dreadful night in the faceoff circle, losing 64.8% of the draws.  Chytil had another awful night, going 1-6.
  • With Panarin out,  Quinn shuffled his lines quite a bit.  Lemieux started the game with Zibanejad and Kreider, but was replace by Kakko midway through the second period.
  • Zibanejad led the team with eight shots on goal with linemate Kreider and Buchnevich second with six.
  • Unusually, Tony DeAngelo led all defensemen in ice time, playing 25:46.  He spent 6:46 on the power play, tied with Zibanejad for most on the team.  Regarding ice time, Pavel Buchnevich had the second most time among forwards with 24:18, trailing only ZIbanejad.
  • The 73 shot attempts by the Rangers tied their season high.  They also had 73 shot attempts in that crazy 7-5 loss on New Years’ Eve to Edmonton.
  • This was the first time the Rangers have allowed more than one power play goal in a game since that 7-5 loss to Edmonton.
  • This was the first time that Alexandar Georgiev has allowed more than two goals in his six career appearances against the Islanders and it was his first loss as a starter after winning four games.
  • Chris Kreider goes into the break as one of the hottest Rangers.  He has scored ten goals in his last 16 games.
  • Buchnevich’s goal was only his third in 24 games.  That’s three goals on 50 shots, a 6% shooting percentage playing on a line with Mika Zibanejad and CHris Kreider.
