3. Boring is good

Sometimes in life, boring can be good. So can the simple things.

And that is the attitude the New York Rangers have to adopt in the wake of this tough loss to the Buffalo Sabres.

Because, sometimes playing unsexy, meat and potatoes hockey is the best recipe for success, even if it isn’t particularly pleasing on the eye.

The Rangers needed to play meat and potatoes hockey on Friday in order to try and combat the neutral-zone trap that the Sabres employed.

They needed to get the puck in deep and be aggressive on the forecheck in order to try and combat that, instead the Blueshirts tried too hard to be adventurous in their play and it simply didn’t work.

As Head Coach David Quinn said, the Rangers “are not good at boring.”

However, if this team is to be successful in the long-term and make regular trips to the postseason, they are going to have to get a lot better at playing boring hockey.

You can’t always win with panache and a swagger, sometimes you have to be prepared to dig deep in the trenches and go to war.

Next. Rangers drop further out of the Wild Card. dark

The Rangers have to learn how to break down structured teams because they won’t get very far playing how they did against the Sabres.

Sometimes, less is more.
