Notes on the game

Chris Kreider is red hot. In the last 25 games he has scored 16 goals and added nine assists.  He now has 23 goals on the season, only five shy of his career high and his 42 points are 11 less than the most he has had in one season.

The Zibanejad line combined for three goals and eight points.

It is the Rangers’ moms road trip and they had a lot to celebrate.  Ryan Strome was interviewed right after the game and he was clearly pleased that he had gotten the best of his brother Dylan.

This was only the third time this season that the Rangers have gotten over 40 shots and allowed that same number.

Julien Gauthier played 7:18 in his debut and had two rushes and drew one penalty.  He used his size well and exhibited some outstanding speed.

Tony DeAngelo came back from missing two games and added two assists and now has 32 assists on the season, second most on the team.

Artemi Panarin scored his 30th goal of the season and now has 399 points in his NHL career.  Only 24 Russian players have reached the 400 point total in NHL history.

Domink Kubilik showed why he is leading all rookies with 25 goals.  He scored twice and showed a sniper’s skill with the two goals.

Igor Shesterkin has now won seven of his first eight decisions. It was for fourth time in his eight starts that he has faced 40 shots or more

There was a scary moment when the game had to be stopped when Shesterkin took a stick to the face. It turned out that the knob of Jonathan Toews’ stick somehow got wedged into the cage of Shesterkin’s mask and came dangerously close to his eye.

During the game the Rangers announced that they had acquired goalie J.F. Berube from the Philadelphia Flyers for future considerations.   This is a pure Hartford move as they are in need of a back up goalie now that Shesterkin is with the Rangers.  Berube has seen action in 34 games over three years for the Islanders and Blackhawks. He has been playing for the Flyers’ AHL affiliate in Lehigh Valley.
