Blue Line Station moving ahead in the age of coronavirus
When the coronavirus crisis ripped the 2019-20 New York Rangers season away from all of us, it left an unexpected void in our daily lives. Here are some thoughts.
At a time when a virus of unknown origins and dire consequences is changing every action we take it may seem silly to talk about the New York Rangers, ice hockey or sports in general. However, nothing drove the severity of this crisis home more than the cancellation of all sports.
The suspension of the season raised nothing but questions. Will the season resume? How will the playoffs be restructured? Will there be games with no spectators? What happens to the start of next season? How will the salary cap be affected? Will Chris Kreider be healed and be able to finish the season?
Less than a week since the last game and we still don’t have any answers, but the most optimistic outlooks are getting grim. It’s not a question of when the season will resume, but if.
What are we do to?
We may not have the current season to follow, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have the New York Rangers. We’ve all watching thousands of games, have as many opinions and there is the one undeniable factor that we all have in common, hope for the future.
We will continue to talk hockey at Blue Line Station. Though there are no games to be played, the team is still at work. The NHL Entry Draft will be held. Contracts need to be signed Played will be traded. In the middle of all of this, K’Andre Miller was signed. The rebuild continues.
We will continue to try to fill the void that the loss of the season has created. We will try some new ideas and will spend time looking back at Rangers history and speculating on the future. Any story ideas are welcome. Make suggestions in the comments section.
There’s one interesting fact about websites like ours. Readership soars during the off-season. Ranger fans are starved for content and the mainstream media stops reporting on hockey when there is no news being made. When the games end, the news about the Rangers stops.
We are now faced with the longest off-season of our lives. It’s taken us a couple days to get our own lives in order. That meant moving our kids of college dorms, stocking up on supplies and hunkering down (just like all of you). It’s time to get back to business with all things Rangers.
We will get through this. As I said, ideas are welcome. Let’s go Rangers!
