Five games from 2019-20 you should watch again
Miss the New York Rangers? Here are some games worth watching again.
The COVID-19 pandemic has paused life as we know it. Schools are shut down, sports are completely at a pause, and we all have needed to find new ways to entertain ourselves and keep busy during this difficult time.
But the National Hockey League, along with many others like the NFL, MLB, and NBA, have opened their archives and have made all 2019-20 season games available to watch for free on their NHL.tv streaming service.
That means that all New York Rangers games from this season and some previous seasons are free to watch – without blackout restrictions.
With so many options to choose from, it may be hard to select a previous Rangers contest to watch, so why don’t we narrow that list down to five games that you should re-watch from the 2019-20 season?
March 5: Washington Capitals
This game was a Mika Zibanejad showcase. He scored five goals, including the overtime winner as the Rangers defeated the Washington Capitals 6-5 at Madison Square Garden.
Zibanejad became the third player in Rangers history to score five goals in a single contest, following Mark Pavelich in 1983 and Don Murdoch in 1976.
It was undoubtedly the Rangers’ most thrilling game this season and an argument could be made for it being the NHL’s top game of the entire year.
January 7: Colorado Avalanche
The Rangers hosted the Colorado Avalanche as goaltender Igor Shesterkin made his long-anticipated NHL debut.
He got off to a shaky start, giving up two goals in the game’s first six and a half minutes,. Shesterkin eventually settled down and helped the Rangers defeat the Avs 5-3.
The performance would set up an attention-grabbing season for Shesterkin, who made 29 saves in the game.
February 25: At New York Islanders
The Blueshirts managed to hold their own in a contest against their most bitter rivals away from The Garden.
The Rangers saw goals from Artemi Panarin, Greg McKegg, Brett Howden, and the overtime winner from Mika Zibanejad as they defeated the New York Islanders 4-3 at Nassau Coliseum.
The Blueshirts made quick work in the extra frame as well, scoring only 28 seconds into the OT. It was a brilliant play by Artemi Panarin who had a breakaway, but made the pass to Zibanejad when all three Islanders converged on him.
January 13: New York Islanders
Who doesn’t love it when your favorite team absolutely thrashes their arch enemies? That’s exactly what the Blueshirts did here.
Panarin scored twice, and Jesper Fast, Chris Kreider, Adam Fox and Jacob Trouba added their own goals as the Rangers ran away from the boys from Long Island, 6-2 at home in Midtown.
Panarin also recorded three assists in this contest for a total of five points, and Alexander Georgiev made 32 saves on 34 shots.
November 23: At Montreal
If this game doesn’t have you biting your finger nails and tapping your feet in stress, then I don’t know what will.
The Rangers were down 4-0 almost three minutes into the second period, but climbed all the way out of the sewer to win this contest 6-5 in the most thrilling fashion.
It was the biggest comeback of the year and a game that David Quinn said was a turning point in the Rangers’ season.
Brendan Lemieux scored two goals with father Claude in attendance, and Artemi Panarin, Pavel Buchnevich, and Filip Chytil added on. Not to mention, a struggling Jacob Trouba scored the game-winning goal 12:10 into the third frame.
