New York Rangers: A recap of the 2019-20 regular season
By Derek McAdam
Where the season goes from here
The Rangers finished the regular season with a 37-28-5 record, good for 79 points and seventh in the Metropolitan Division. However, they finished 11th in the Eastern Conference which allows them to participate in the Qualifying Round against Carolina.
While the Rangers have made the post-season and there is a small chance that they can win the Stanley Cup, the odds are heavily stacked against them. Boston is the superior team in the Eastern Conference and would be a tough challenge to get past.
This does not mean that the Rangers do not have the talent. If they did not have the talent they would not have been able to play with some of the toughest teams in hockey. They have plenty of young players that need to grow and develop over the next couple of seasons to make deep runs in the playoffs.
The 2019-20 New York Rangers team was filled with many younger players who were looking to make their presence on the team known. They always played hard and never let a deficit get them down. They always tried to find ways to win a game from behind, and sometimes it worked.
If there is one thing to take away from this year’s team, it’s that there is a legitimate team that is being built that can make serious runs for the Stanley Cup. Although the chances for Cups may not come for another few years, the team is striving closer and closer for their first win since 1994.
