Game information

To make up for the lack of fans, the NHL has redesigned the arenas with a slew of screens and lightboards around the rinks.  The telecasts so far have included some muted music and crowd noise and the ambient sound of the skates on the ice seems to be amplified.  In a Zoom call last week, a five second delay was mentioned, but was definitely not in use in the Calgary-Oilers game.   It appears that for the Stanley Cup Qualifiers, the local networks will be able to determine how they will produce the telecasts.

The telecasts will have 32 cameras available instead of the usual 20 including an “eye in the sky” camera.   They decided against using a drone for aerial shots (duh).  Look for a lot of tight shots with the lack of an audience minimized as much as possible.  For anyone who has watched a hockey game at the Barclay Center, the shots look like the section of that arena that has no seats.

Puck drop begins at 8:00 pm tonight at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto.  Fans can catch the game on MSG with the Islanders call on MSG+.   Outside of the New York market, the game will be on NBCSN.    MSG Network is beginning their hockey coverage at 7pm with a preview of the Hurricanes series at 7pm and a pregame show at 730pm.

If Ranger fans want to scout the Carolina Hurricanes, they will be playing the Washington Capitals at 4pm EST, also on NBCSN.

Be sure to join the live conversation during the game and talk about the Blueshirts.  The live chat will be up in the hour before gametime here on Blue Line Station.
