Final warning: Rangers down to their final chance to save season
Notes on the game
- Quinn on Svechnikov: “He’s the whole package,” Quinn said. “You’re talking about a lot of skill — physical, quick, there’s really not a lot he can’t do. That’s why he was the second pick overall (in the 2018 Entry Draft). He’s been one of the best players at every level he’s played at and he’s quickly emerging as one of the best players in this league, that’s for sure.”
- Quinn said the team has not decided who will start in goal in Game Three. It’s believed that if Igor Shesterkin can’t go, Alexandar Georgiev will get the nod. Shesterkin is officially listed as day-to-day.
- Svechnikov’s first goal is one Lundqvist probably would like back. “Hank was solid,” Quinn said. “Listen we got one goal, we’re not going to win scoring one goal. We certainly left him out to dry there the last two for sure.”
- Howden had five more hits on Monday, giving him a team best 14 in the series.
- Carolina won the turnover battle with 16 takeaways to the Rangers’ 10.
- The Rangers will get back forward Brendan Lemieux for Game Three. As you know, he was suspended for the first two games of this series for his headshot on Colorado Avalanche forward Joonas Donskoi.
- Although the score was one-sided, the Rangers had their share of the offense. Shot attempts were 55-52 in favor of Carolina, but more Hurricanes shots got through as they had a 34-24 shots advantage. They also had 10 high danger chances compared to the Rangers’ five.
- Jacob Trouba led all Rangers in ice time with 24:34 while Artemi Panarin led all forwards in ice time, playing 21:36. Kaapo Kakko, moved up to the second line, played 17:35 including 2:16 on the power play, finishing with one shot on goal and a plus/minus rating of minus two.
