When the New York Rangers won the draft lottery, the Twitter world exploded

In an age of social media, Twitter is the medium to turn to when there is breaking news in the hockey world.  The New York Rangers winning the lottery and getting the top pick in the NHL Entry Draft certainly qualified and the reaction was immediate.

Here’s how the NHL put out the word.

The Rangers social media team sent out a barrage of tweets, reflecting the euphoria that the team had to be experiencing.

The Rangers’ Twitter feed included a GIF of David Quinn (audio up please) and some very simple messages.

Never did a ping pong ball look so good.

Madison Square Garden took on a new photoshopped look as well.

The Rangers weren’t the only team to weigh in on the lottery win.  The Carolina Hurricanes social media team tweeted a gracious and totally legitimate message.

Players’ reactions

Current players usually take their time in reacting since they never know how it will affect them.  Of course, that doesn’t include social media maven and podcaster Tony DeAngelo.  It was obvious he was glued to the tube for the entire show.

DeAngelo takes some heat for his tweets, but he said what every Rangers player probably feels.   One thing is for sure, Tony DeAngelo is a man of the people.

John Rosasco, the Rangers top PR exec also weighed in with his perspective, the fact that a newpaper cover on hockey in August is as rare as a win over the Hurricanes (just kidding).

The folks at NBC Sports must be pleased that a generational talent will be playing in the number one media market soon.  They were giddy about the potential ratings bonanza.

Next up, some former Rangers weighed in.
