Armchair GM New York Rangers roster review: Part 2 – Left wingers
#10 Artemi Panarin
Is there anything negative that can be said about Artemi Panarin’s first season with the New York Rangers? 32 goals, 63 assists, 95 points, +36, all career high totals in just 69 games. A Ted Lindsay Award finalist as well as a nominee for the Hart Trophy, joining the likes of Henrik Lundqvist (2012), Jaromir Jagr (2006) and Mark Messier (1992) as the only Rangers in the last three decades to be so honored. Of that group, only Messier took the trophy home, will Panarin be next?
Artemi Panarin is the epitome of the New York Rangers star winger and is arguably, along with Mika Zibanejad, their most important player. He posted scoring streaks of both 12 and 13 games while being held off the scoresheet for no more than two games at time, proving his game in, game out impact on the team.
Additionally, his 200 foot game should not be understated. Underrated before arriving in New York, he ranked second on the team in takeaways (56) and Relative Corsi (6.5%), behind only Adam Fox in both categories. To top it off, he loves being here and is having fun on the ice. He wanted to be a Ranger. His energy level is off the charts and is infectious, not only to his teammates, but to the Garden Faithful too. He is a keeper, end of story.
