As we get ready for a crazy month of October, some New York Rangers musings

Autumn has arrived and the craziness is about to begin.  The NHL Entry Draft and free agent frenzy arrive in the next two and a half weeks. The New York Rangers have been conspicuously quiet on the personnel front, but with the contract buyout window opening on Friday, expect some news soon.

All eyes are still on the Stanley Cup Finals, but with the draft looming, it’s a busy time in the prospect evaluation world.  Meanwhile, some baby Rangers were in action in Europe where they are actual playing hockey.

No goals for Kravtsov

Vitali Kravtsov didn’t score!  After a four game scoring streak, Kravtsov was shut out along with the entire Traktor team as they lost 1-0 to Severstal.  The New York Rangers prospect led all forwards in time on ice with 19:08 as Traktor looked for offense.

Kravtsov had three more shots on goal  for a league leading season total of 35 or 4.4 shots per game.  He remains second in the KHL in goals scored with six.  Kravtsov took his second minor penalty of the season, a first period slashing penalty.

Goalie Vladislav Podyapolsky  pitched the shutout  for Severstal, one of the better teams in the Bobrov Division.    Traktor gets back in action on Thursday against Salavat, featuring Teemu Hartikainen, the top goal scorer in the KHL with seven.

In Swedish Hockey League action, Leksand beat Malmö 5-3.  Ranger prospect Calle Själin played 10:45 on defense for Leksand and notched one hit.  Lias Andersson and HV71 will be in action on Thursday versus Örebro.

In the Czech Republic, the Health Minister has placed a 2,000 person limit for games played by the Extraliga.  No more than 2,000 people can be in an arena, including the teams’ personnel. Defenseman Libor Hajek is playing for  HC Olomouc whose next game is Friday.
