
Three games on Sunday for New York Rangers prospects in Europe
Three New York Rangers prospects were in action on Sunday in Europe. Vitali Kravtsov and Yegor Rykov played games in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) and Swedish prospect Karl Henriksson was in action for Frolunda in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL).
Vitali Kravtsov and Traktor lost in shootout to Dynamo. Kravtsov was held off the scoresheet again and couldn’t score in his attempt in the shootout. In the KHL, they use a five round shootout and Artyom Demkov of Dynamo scored on the first attempt. All other shootout attempts were unsuccessful Kravtsov went third for Traktor and was stymied by goalie Dominik Furch.
Kravtsov had 20 shifts for 19:16 minutes of ice time and finished with one shot on goal and he also blocked two shots.
For Traktor, they salvaged a point with the shootout after coming back from a 0-2 deficit. Traktor is in fourth place in the Kharlamov Division with a 4-4-2 record. Their next game is Tuesday against Sochi.
Yegor Rykov and CSKA Moscow were more successful, beating Jokerit 4-2. Defenseman Rykov played 23 shifts for 17:54. He was scoreless, but had one shot on goal and blocked two shots.
CSKA is in first place in the Tarasov Division with a 5-2-1 record and they next play on Thursday against Spartak.
For Helsinki based Jokerit, this was only their third game of the season. The team was in quarantine from September 9-21 after a game with Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk and seven players on that team tested positive. Since they are based in Finland, Jokerit was required to quarantine by the Finnish Institute of Health and Welfare.
Karl Henriksson gets an assist
Swedish prospect Karl Henriksson got his first point of the season, assisting on Joel Lundqvist’s empty net goal as Frölunda defeated Djurgården 2-0. The win ended Djurgården ‘s 16 game home winning streak.
Frölunda ‘s first goal was scored on the power play Mattias Norlinder on an assist by Lucas Raymond, expected to be one of the top picks in the NHL Entry Draft in October.
Henriksson is a natural center, but has been playing wing. He logged 14:24 minutes of ice time and added on hit. The assist was his first point of the season in his second game.
Frölunda is undefeated and is tied for first place with Luleå. There is no action for Rangers prospects in the SHL until Thursday when all are in action (except suspended Adam Edstrom).
