It’s could be the biggest draft in New York Rangers history

Imagine, the New York Rangers have the top pick in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft.  This comes one year after they picked second overall.  For a team that has been perpetually snakebit, this turn of events has elated Ranger fans worldwide.  There’s still a smidgen of mystery about who the Blueshirts will pick with their first selection, but the odds are overwhelming that it will be  Alexis Lafrenière.

It’s must-see TV for Ranger fans and there is a lot of special programming you may be interested in.   Here’s how to watch all of it:

  • Tuesday, October 6 at 5pm: NHL Tonight 2020 NHL Draft Preview
  • Tuesday, October 6 at 10:30pm: NHL Tonight 2020 NHL Draft Round 1 Recap

This will be the most unusual NHL Draft ever.  Instead of an arena filled with team executives, scouts and prospects with their families, this draft will be held in the NHL Network studio in Secaucus, New Jersey via live video conferencing.

The teams will make their picks via a video feed and the expected top prospects will be connected to the telecast via the internet as well.  It will be similar to the NHL Draft Lottery, but on a much larger scale.

The later rounds of the draft will go much quicker without the traditional  procession of players to the podium to pose for pictures with team management.  The potential of technical issues abound, but the NHL has an excellent track record at producing these events.

We’ll have to see how any trade announcements will be made during the draft (and there should be some).
