The New York Rangers surprised no one by selecting Alexis Lafreniere with the first overall pick in the 2020 NHL Draft. Alexis Lafrenière fever has infected Rangerstown at a, well, fever pace. Being the highest pick for the franchise over the last six decades its no surprise that the organization and fan base are excited.
Even though he is joining a team mixed full of fresh young talent, and established veterans, Lafrenière is already being referred to as the face of the New York Rangers. As the savior of the franchise, following in the skates of Mark Messier’s messiah. But, are these accolades premature? Is it fair to put the pressure of so much expectation on the young player?
