As expected, the New York Rangers signed Brendan Lemieux, avoiding arbitration
With an arbitration hearing scheduled for tomorrow, the New York Rangers inked Brendan Lemieux to a two year deal with $3.1 million at an Average Annual Value (AAV) of $1.55 million. The deal was first reported by Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet.
The signing means that the Rangers have their entire roster under contract and now they can strt focusing on planning for the new season.
Lemieux’s requested number was $2 million while the Rangers offered a two year deal for $950k in year one and $1.075 million in year two. The anticipation was that the two sides would split the difference and that’s pretty much what they did.
This comes on the heel of the team signing Ryan Strome to a two year deal on Thursday.
The Rangers now have $4,829,367 in cap space heading into the season, though they are facing a potential performance bonus penalty of several million dollars if Alexis Lafrenière, Kaapo Kakko and Igor Shesterkin hit their targets.
With no more uncertainty heading towards training camp, it remains to be seen if Jeff Gorton will be making any more moves with limited cap space. He does have a surplus of young prospective talent that he could dangle to a prospective trade partner.
