The New York Rangers made FanSided’s list of the to 250 “Fandoms”

Every year, FanSided, our parent family of websites, comes up with a list of the top 250 “Fandoms.”    What is a “Fandom?”  Here’s the official explanation.

“The FanSided 250 (previously called the Fandom 250) is our annual celebration of fandom. Our list has evolved into a ranking of the “hottest” 250 fandoms of the year, whereas previous years’ lists have focused on identifying and ranking the “best” fan bases. We’re looking at the things that made you a fan this year: the people, teams, and things that gave us moments to root for.”

It’s obviously not just hockey teams.  The list encompasses all major sports along with popular entertainment and celebrities.  With the Rangers coming in at #240 our feeling is that the ranking could be higher, but considering what we’ve gone through this year, it’s enough to make the list.

For example, the top five lean heavily towards sports champions:

  1. Los Angeles Lakers
  2. Patrick Mahomes
  3. Baby Yoda
  4. LeBron James
  5. Los Angeles Dodgers

You won’t find a hockey team until #98 in the ranking and it’s easy to see who made the top slot.  The Stanley Cup Champion Tampa Bay Lightning was the top hockey team, followed by the Vegas Golden Knights (#149), Washington Capitals (#168) and the Dallas Stars (#179).

The Rangers came in 17th among hockey teams which is decent considering that 11 teams didn’t even make the top 250.  Let me express just a little irritation with the panel for slotting the Blueshirts at #240 behind the Islanders (#210) and the Devils (#238). Sure they made it to the Eastern Conference Finals, but the Islanders?????  Really?

Let’s just issue a challenge to our Metro area rivals.  By adding Alexis Lafrenière to the likes of Artemi Panarin, Mika Zibajenad,Adam Fox, Igor Shesterkin and company, there is no way that the New York Rangers will finish behind the Islanders or the Devils in the 2021 rankings.

Blue Line Station readers, you can do your part to influence the results for 2021.  Keep reading our stories, engage in a healthy discussion and share our stuff on social media.  Tell your friends.  The Rangers may not win the Stanley Cup this season, but they will an exciting team to watch and Blue Line Station will be there every step of the way.

At any rate, check out the FanSided 250 to see what’s hot and what’s not.
