The New York Rangers can bring 36 skaters to training camp as well as goalies

Training camp for the New York Rangers will begin on Monday, January 3 with their first game scheduled for January 14.  The abbreviated training camp will be limited to 36 skaters and an unlimited number of goalies.

The Rangers have 40 skaters under contract and they haven’t announced if they are bringing anyone to camp on a tryout basis.  With Vitali Kravtsov and Yegor Rykov remaining with their KHL teams, it means that two players under contract will not be able to participate, more if they invite any unsigned players to camp .  Last fall the Rangers brought 56 players to camp including several prospects not under contract and players who had signed with the Hartford Wolf Pack.

Here are the players eligible to participate.   The players who will definitely or likely to be at camp are in bold.

*Huska has been playing for HKM a.s. Zvolen in the Slovak league and last played on December 13.  He is still listed on the active roster for the team.

The question is which two players will not get the invitation.  Matthew Robertson had to leave Team Canada’s WJC squad due to a pandemic issue and it is unclear if the Rangers will bring him to camp as they did last year.   Players on the cusp include Ty Ronning, Jake Elmer and Patrick Newell who all played in Hartford, but didn’t do anything to warrant a promotion to the NHL.
