With the New York Rangers 2021 season ready to start on Thursday here’s some useful information
The New York Rangers begin their quest for a Stanley Cup on Thursday night, hosting the New York Islanders. Since the team is off on Tuesday and there is no practice to talk about, here are some useful facts that will guide you through the new season.
Town Hall meeting
As they did last season, the Rangers brain trust will he holding a town hall meeting that will be live streamed on Wednesday night at 6pm. John Davidson, Jeff Gorton and David Quinn will be talking about the2021 New York Rangers.
There is a link to sign up for the live stream, but it isn’t necessary as it will stream live on the team’s Twitter, Facebook and YouTube as well as on the Rangers’ website. If you sign up you will be getting a lot of ticket solicitations and promotional emails.
Targets
With the season only 56 games long, we won’t have the traditional benchmarks to note to tell us a player is having a good season. The mystique of a 30, 40 or 50 goal season or an 80,90 or 100 point season will be lost. In the future this season will be compared using statistics per game, a logical method to assess performance.
To give you an idea of how our heroes are doing, here are some equivalents when it comes to seasonal targets. Simply put, if Alexis Lafreniere scores 14 goals this season, it’s the equivalent of a 20 goal 82 game season of if Igor Shesterkin wins 20 games, it would be a 30 win season under normal circumstances.
Scoring benchmarks:
- 20 goals = 14 goals
- 30 goals = 20 goals
- 40 goals = 27 goals
- 50 goals = 34 goals
- 60 points = 41 points
- 70 points = 48 points
- 80 points = 55 points
- 90 points = 61 points
- 100 points = 68 points
Goalie’s benchmarks:
- 20 wins = 14 wins
- 30 wins = 20 wins
Miscellaneous:
100 penalty minutes = 68 penalty minutes
