Notes on the game

This was the first time in his NHL career that Igor Shesterkin came into a game in relief. He stopped all eight shots he faced, but it wasn’t a tough period for him.

Alexandar Georgiev stopped 16 of 20 shots and was clearly beat on the disallowed goal. It was only the fourth time he has has been pulled in a game.

When Chytil scored, it was the first even strength goal given up by the Devils in three games.

This was the first time the Rangers have had 50 shots in a game since February 15, 2018 when they had 50 shots against the Islanders.  The last time they had more than 50 shots was December 2010, also against the Islanders when they had 52 shots.

The Rangers outhit the Devils 25-21, but New Jersey was on top in the other game statistics.  They won more faceoffs 30-28, blocked shots 18-10, takeaways 7-6 and the Rangers had 19 giveaways to the Devils’ 10.

The Rangers have killed 10 of 13 penalties, a 77% success rate.  Their power play is playing well 3-16 on the season, but 3-13 in the last two games.

Artemi Panarin led all forwards in ice time with 24:42, followed by Strome with 21:21.  Adam Fox played 25:31 to lead the team.

The Rangers had 38 scoring chances in the game compared to 19 for the Devils.  It was much closer 5v5 as the Rangers had 25 scoring chances to 18 for the Devils.  At all strengths the Rangers had 18 high danger scoring chances.

Chris Kreider had a team high five high danger scoring chances and scored once. He hit the post on a power play one-timer and was stopped multiple times by Blackwood.

Alexis Lafrenière played a quiet 14:14 with one shot on goal.

Chytil actually won six of 11 faceoffs. Howden had a tough night winning one of four and getting tossed  a few times.

The Devils have still not lost a game in regulation, their best start in three years.

The last time the Devils allowed 50 shots was last February when they gave up 55 shots in a shootout win over the Blue Jackets.
