The New York Rangers practiced Friday morning after their big 6-1 win over the New Jersey Devils, but there were no immediate answers about Igor Shesterkin and how serious his injury is. Coach David Quinn was asked several times about the injury and he was reluctant to make any projections.

The answer came in a tweet from the Rangers on Friday afternoon.

Anyone who saw Shesterkin sprawled on the ice and then helped to the locker room had to believe that it was a very serious injury, possibly a torn hamstring so to find out it is a mild groin strain in incredibly good news.

The bad news is that it is the second groin injury for Shesterkin in eight months.  Don’t forget that it was a groin problem that cost Shesterkin two starts in the Stanley Cup Qualifier last August.  Add that to an ankle injury a year ago and the freak car accident and he is going to get a reputation for being injury prone.

Quinn did talk about Mika Zibanejad and any reaction to his benching. “He and I have had plenty of conversations and there are no surprises here…I was happy in the uptick in play after he sat for a little bit. ”
