Records set, history made

Mika Zibanejad’s six points in the second period tied Bryan Trottier’s NHL record for the most points in one period. Trottier had three goals and three assists against the Rangers in the second period of a 9-4 Islander win at the Nassau Coliseum. The franchise record of five points had belonged to Bill Cook, set in March 1933.

Zibanejad’s six points in one game was one off the franchise record of seven, set by Steve Vickers in 1976 in a game against the Capitals.

Zibanejad’s three goals in one period tied a Ranger record, held by numerous player and last accomplished by Radek Dvorak in March 2001.

Zibanejad is the first Ranger to score a natural hat trick including a power play, shorthanded and even strength goal in one period.  He was the 15th NHL player to accomplish that feat and the first since 2009.

This was the second time in his career that Zibanejad had a power play, shorthanded and regulation goal in one game, the only Ranger to do it twice.

Zibanejad is the first player in NHL history to have a natural hat trick with a shorthanded, power play and even strength goal and also get three assist.

The nine goals scored by the Rangers were the most that they have scored in a game since a 10-2 win over Tampa in November 1998..

Their nine goal differential was the most since a 9-0 win over the Devils in March 1986.  Nine goals was the third biggest differential in team history.  They beat the Califorinia Golden Seals in November 1971 by 11 goals., winning 12-1.

The seven goals in one period was one off the franchise record of eight, set in November 1971 in that 12-1 win over the Golden Seals.

The Rangers were the eighth team in the last 25 years to score nine goals in the first two periods of a game.
