Who the Kraken cannot get their tentacles on

The Seattle Kraken expansion draft will follow the same rules as the last draft for the Golden Knights. The Kraken will be required to choose 30 players, one from each eligible team, to satisfy a roster made up of a minimum of 14 forwards, nine defenseman and three goaltenders. Each team will be permitted to protect either seven forwards, three defensemen and a goalie, or, eight skaters (forwards or defensemen) and a goalie. The full rules can be viewed here at NHL.com.

Starting at the 2018 NHL trade deadline, the New York Rangers have either traded or bought out most of the players who have held veteran status in the league. In their place, they have mostly filled the team with young and talented players. This leaves the Rangers in an enviable position as they have many important players on their roster that will be exempt from the expansion draft.

Here are the main points affecting the Rangers

"All players with no movement clauses at the time of the draft, and who decline to waive those clauses, must be protected and will be counted toward their team’s applicable protection limits."

This leaves the Rangers with a small list of players who must be protected
