The New York Rangers  have scored 17 goals in two games  against the Philadelphia  Flyers.  Their 8-3 win wasn’t as dominant as their 9-0 victory, but it was impressive.  If anything, the Blueshirts were guilty of scoring too many goals too soon in the game.  They were up 6-0 just three minutes into the second period and it left a lot of time for sloppy play and rough stuff.

It was a record setting night for both Mika Zibanejad and Adam Fox. Zibanejad notched his second natural hat trick of the season and Fox had five assists.

After the game, Zibanejad was humble saying “The puck seems to be going in right now. It’s nice to be able to contribute offensively for the team, specially since the start, the first part of the season.  It’s obviously a great feeling when you win and can  contribute.”

Adam Fox talked about the rise of the offense. “Scoring goals on the power play helps…before we were getting chances but not capitalizing…getting goals helps guys get confidence…we’re not cheating the offense. we’re getting chances off the rush and capitalizing off that, it starts on the back end and we get chances off that.”

This could be the last game to be coached by Kris Knoblauch.  Jacques Martin and Greg Brown were back from their COVID quarantines and David  Quinn is looking to be ready to return, as early as Saturday.

Knoblauch raved about Adam Fox. “When you’re on the ice with the puck, it’s really difficult. For him it doesn’t seem slow, He’s got such good awareness of, who’s on the ice, who’s checking him, where his teammate are going…a lot of plays look like dead plays, but he’s always able to make that next play,”

He reflected on his time coaching. “I’m enjoying it.  I’m loving the experience. I like  being here.”  Again, he said that he is just a caretaker, relaying messages from the permanent coaches and said that he takes no responsibility for the Rangers’ winning record since  he took over.
